As Jenny walked quickly to the locker room to get ready for practice, she was suddenly struck with an overwhelming pain. Her head felt as if it were on fire.
Suddenly, like a flash of lightning, she saw Brenda, Joe, and Molly standing outside of an RA meeting.
She could hear Joe talking as if he were right next to her.
“So Brenda, Molly and I were thinking about going for a drive after the meeting, would you like to join us?”
“Sure.”
Jenny could hear Brenda screaming in the car and instantly all the pain in her head was gone as well as the vision.
“Brenda.”
Instead of going to practice, Jenny ran home. Something was going to happen, she just didn’t know what.
Jenny ran inside, afraid of what she might find.
“BRENDA, BRENDA, BRENDA, BREN-” shouted Jenny.
“WHAT, WHAT, WHAT’S THE MATTER?
Why aren’t you at softball practice?”
“Because of our big win yesterday, coach let us take the night off,” Jenny lied.
“Oh well Jenny, I was just about to call Katherine.”
“Call Katherine for what?”
“No reason just returning a phone call.”
There was a knock at the door.
“Oh who is at the door?” asked Jenny, nervously.
“Joe.”
“For what?” asked Jenny, frantically.
“I was going to go to a meeting with him.”
“Could I go?”
“Not this time.”
“Why?”
“Well it’s going to be really boring, you won’t want to come.”
“Oh no, I’ll come,” insisted Jenny.
“Uh alright,”
“Okay well then let’s go, we don’t want to be late,” said Jenny.
“Just a second Jenny, I have to make a quick phone call. Tell Joe I’ll be out in a minute.”
“Okay,” said Jenny.
“Not tonight, I repeat, I’m canceling the mission tonight.”
As they pulled up Jenny noticed that some woman was standing outside waiting for them.
Molly, Jenny thought.
For the rest of the meeting Jenny thought to herself, if I hadn’t had such a funny feeling, Brenda would probably be dead. Mr Lumpkin was right.
