Jenny’s Astronomy Lesson

The next morning Jenny woke up early and went to school to finish the homework assignments from yesterday.

She was able to get through each assignment quickly, and once she finished, she went to her first class of the day.

Jenny’s first class of the day was yet again science.

The new topic Mr Lumpkin began to discuss was astronomy.

“Now since this is my favorite class of this year, I’m going to teach you a little bit of astronomy.

“Excuse me Mr Lumpkin,” said Melissa.

“Yes,” said Mr Lumpkin.

“Isn’t astronomy usually for the older students?”

“Yes and I was just coming to that.

Yes, astronomy is for high school students, but you can relax, we won’t be doing a whole unit on astronomy.

But I am going to share some stories of astronomy and some myths of astronomy with you all today.

Now it is believed by a group of astronomers that every fifty or one hundred years, when an eclipse happens;

That some people are affected by the eclipse and they’re temporally given psychic abilities.

It is also said that some possess this power for the rest of their lives.”

“Is that true sir?” asked Jenny.

“Well most people believe that it’s a myth.”

“Do you sir?” asked Jenny.

“No I believe that you actually can possess this power.

Oh there goes the bell, class dismissed.”

Jenny waited until everyone left to ask Mr Lumpkin about the psychic powers.

“Sir do you really believe in that whole eclipse thing, or were you just saying that?”

“Oh no, Jenny I believe it, why do you ask?”

“I think I might have this ability.”

“Meet me here after school and we’ll discuss it.”

“Okay sir.”

For the rest of the day Jenny focused on her school work, while trying to keep Brenda’s fate out of her mind as well as the whole astronomy problem.

Once school came to a close, Jenny went straight back to her science class to talk to Mr Lumpkin.

“Mr Lumpkin.”

“Oh, Jenny please come in.

So what’s this whole thing about you and this psychic ability?”

“Well sir, I’m not sure, I keep having these strange dreams about my godmother.”

“What are they about?”

“They’re about this man that’s been trying to date her, but she doesn’t seem to realize that he’s trying to kill her.”

“Who’s this man?”

“Joseph Johnson.”

Mr Lumpkin had a look of absolute horror on his face.

Joseph Johnson, a name that he never wanted to hear again in his life. Jenny’s words seemed to cut through him like a knife. The fear that always seemed to cloud his thoughts, he was back.

Mr Lumpkin looked down at Jenny.

“Mr Lumpkin are you okay?”

“I’m fine it’s just that name sounds like someone I know,” said Mr Lumpkin unsteadily.

“Sir are you sure that you’re okay?”

“I’m fine.”

“Oh,” said Jenny.

“But I think I’m probably thinking of someone else. Jenny the only advice I could possibly give you is that if you feel that something is going to happen, go with your gut.”

“Okay,” said Jenny.

“Ah, I have to go now, but Jenny please be careful.”

“Okay, I will sir.”

“Great, have nice night.”

“You too,” said Jenny.
